What is GALVANOL?
It is a ready-to-use, one-component cold galvanizing coating with 96% zinc in the dry film and 99% zinc purity. It protects steel cathodically, just like hot-dip galvanizing, and we manufacture it in Spain.
Is it the same as hot-dip galvanizing?
The principle of protection is the same (the zinc sacrifices itself to protect the steel), but it is applied as a paint, on site, without the need to take the parts to a plant. It complies with ISO 1461 and ASTM A780 as a hot-dip galvanizing repair coating. Find out more in our comparison.
Can it be applied over rust?
Over dense, well-adhered rust, yes. Over loose rust, flakes, or old paint, no: they must be removed first with a brush or sandpaper and degreased.
How long does it last?
It depends on the environment and the thickness. According to the ISO 12944-6 tests in its technical data sheet, with the correct thickness, it exceeds 25 years in C3 and C4 environments, and reaches more than 25 years in C5 with 130 µm or more. We explain it in corrosivity categories.
How many coats should I apply?
We generally recommend 2 coats and 3 in marine or industrial environments. Each coat leaves about 40–60 microns with about 250 g/m².
How much product do I need?
kg = m² × coats × 0.25. Or directly with our calculator.
How long does it take to dry?
Touch dry in about 20 minutes at 20 °C. Between coats, 30–60 minutes. Fully dry in about 4 hours and fully cured in 72 hours.
Can it be applied in cold weather?
Yes: the can and bucket can be applied from -30 °C to +60 °C. The spray, from +5 °C to +40 °C.
What should it be applied with?
Brush, roller, or spray gun (air or airless). It is also available in a 500 ml spray for touch-ups. Read which method to choose.
Can it be painted over?
Yes, with solvent-based paints (enamels, epoxy, polyurethane, or ALINOL), waiting at least 4–6 hours.
What color is it?
Matte gray, like natural zinc, similar to hot-dip galvanizing.
Is it conductive?
GALVANOL is highly conductive (0.0 Ω according to ISO 787-14), which is key for cathodic protection to work.
How long does it last?
In its original container, the can and bucket do not expire; it is recommended to shake the closed container every 3 years. The spray has a minimum guaranteed shelf life of 3 years.
What is the difference between GALVANOL and ZINKER?
GALVANOL is our premium range, with tests in an ENAC-accredited laboratory. ZINKER is the economy range, for those looking for galvanic protection at a better price.
Do you ship to all of Spain?
Yes, within 24/72 hours, free to the mainland and Balearic Islands on orders from €50. We also ship to Portugal. For large orders or business pricing, write to us.
