Perfiles galvanizados en caliente con soldadura reparada con pintura rica en zinc según ISO 1461

Does GALVANOL comply with the ISO 1461 standard for galvanizing?

ISO 1461 regulates the hot-dip galvanizing of iron and steel parts: minimum thicknesses, appearance and, very importantly, how uncoated or damaged areas must be repaired. That is where GALVANOL comes in.

What ISO 1461 says about repairs

The standard allows uncoated or damaged areas to be renewed by zinc thermal spraying or a suitable zinc-rich paint. The repaired area must be clean, well-adhered and have a thickness greater than the locally required galvanizing thickness.

In practice, this applies to:

  • Small areas that were left without zinc in the galvanizing bath.
  • Welds, cuts and holes made after galvanizing.
  • Dents and scratches during transport and assembly.

Why GALVANOL is suitable

  • 96% zinc in the dry film, with cathodic protection just like galvanizing.
  • Allows you to achieve the required thickness with 2–3 coats (about 40 µm per coat at 250 g/m²).
  • It also complies with ASTM A780, the American standard for repairing galvanizing. See GALVANOL and ASTM A780.

How to make a correct repair

  1. Clean off grease and dirt; remove rust and welding slag with a wire brush or disc.
  2. Apply GALVANOL overlapping by a few centimeters onto the sound galvanizing.
  3. Apply 2–3 coats until the thickness exceeds that of the surrounding galvanizing.
