Brush, roller, gun or spray: how to apply zinc-rich paint

GALVANOL can be applied with a brush, roller, spray gun, or spray can. The correct method depends on the size of the surface and the shape of the part.

Brush

Ideal for welds, joints, corners, and fasteners. Use natural bristles. This method provides the best penetration in difficult areas: even if you paint with a spray gun, it is advisable to brush over welds and edges first.

Roller

For flat surfaces and wide profiles. Use a solvent-resistant roller, such as one made of 100% wool. Faster than a brush and provides a good coating thickness.

Spray gun

For large structures. Pressure: 2–3 bar; nozzle: 2.0–3.0 mm. You can dilute by up to 15% by weight using only xylene. Remove the internal filter: the zinc clogs it.

Airless

For large-scale projects. 80–120 bar and a 0.015–0.025" nozzle. Very high output with uniform coating thickness.

Spray can

The GALVANOL Spray 500 ml is the most convenient option for touch-ups, repairs, and small parts. Shake for at least 1 minute, apply from a distance of 25–35 cm, and shake again every 10 seconds of use.

General tip

Regardless of the method, mix the product thoroughly before use and again every 20–30 minutes: zinc is heavy and settles at the bottom. Everything you need to get started with a brush and roller comes in the GALVANOL 2 kg Application Kit.
