GALVANOL - What is it and what is it for?

Hello,

GALVANOL®, galvanic coating with very high zinc content (equal to or more than 96%) in dry layer and active cathodic protection for ferrous metals. It is a great companion and high competition at the same time to hot dip galvanizing. Please continue reading until the end to fully understand all the advantages that GALVANOL® coating provides.

Let's go into detail:

  • Companion : For recovery of active cathodic protection in cuts, drilling, damage, zinc-depleted areas, defects, modifications and welding in hot-dip galvanized parts. The recovery of protection in old parts, somewhat rusty, or about to rust, eliminating the need for replacement and maintaining the same structures infinitely.
  • Competence : It can replace dip galvanizing on multiple occasions and is more economical than hot dip galvanizing with the advantages of protection recovery. I have spent many years reapplying GALVANOL®, recharging the protection by applying GALVANOL® without carrying out delicate cleaning. Savings in transportation, time, money, and avoiding waits at the galvanizing plants.

Advantages over hot dip galvanizing:

  • It is applied like a conventional paint and is one component.
  • Apart from saving money and time, they can apply finishing paints without treatments that are necessary for applying finishing paints after hot-dip galvanizing.
  • Quick drying between 15 and 30 minutes between each layer of product. (Complete curing to apply finishing paints advisable 24 hours, although they can be applied if urgently after 4 or 6 hours depending on environmental circumstances)
  • Certificates of tests carried out in a laboratory accredited by ENAC: :
  • JOINS EN ISO12944-(1/6):2018 C4 Very high and C5 High

(With a minimum point thickness of 121 µm (microns) )

  • JOINS EN ISO12944-(1/6):1999 C4 High

(with minimum point thickness 93 µm (microns) )

  • It contains the highest quality zinc on the market with certified purity according to standards:
  • ISO 752:2004/Cor 1:2006 and DIN 1706 - Purity is 99.995%
  • ISO3549:2003 - Minimum purity 98.5%, maximum purity 99.4%
  • Contains 96% zinc in a completely dry layer.
  • Diffusion property between layers.
  • It can be left without finishing paints, it is self-sufficient. RAL 7037 (1)
  • Mass: 2.4kg = 1 Liter
  • Theoretical consumption 250g. x 1m 2 = thickness of 40µm (microns) in dry layer, minimum advisable dry layer thickness of approximately 60 - 80µm and maximum of 200µm.

Finishes:

GALVANOL is compatible with more than 95% of finishing paints. Finishing and barrier protection paints on GALVANOL®, Polyurethane 2C and Epoxy paints, are widely used in very high corrosive environments.

Companies that previously used only Polyurethane or Epoxy paints began using GALVANOL® as a base for the following quality reasons:

After several years, epoxy and polyurethane crack and leave spores for the passage of moisture and that causes corrosion under the said paints. GALVANOL® greatly extends the useful life without the need for any repair of the structures due to corrosion since it would enter the protection only when spores appear in the barrier and finishing paints.

  • Color when dry once finished applying: The same tone is not always maintained in highly corrosive environments due to active cathodic protection reactions – zinc salts may appear (whitish spots) which eventually disappear after a while and the finish remains of the natural zinc color. To prevent stains, you can polish 5µm to obtain a shiny finish.
  • To obtain a shiny final finish, we recommend using ALINOL, which creates a shiny metallic final finish and at the same time increases protection against corrosion, providing barrier protection, extending the final durability against corrosion considerably more.
